Valhalla Textile Center operates from May through September. All courses will be individually tailored to the wishes of the participants. You will have customized learning, choosing from a menu of study topics. Or, if you have specific projects that you wish support in executing, that can also be accommodated. Finally, you choose the dates you wish to attend. Your duration of stay will determine the depth and scale of any chosen study topic.
Increase your technical capabilities by working with Katharine Dickerson who has 30 years of full-time teaching experience with various Textile processes at the Alberta College of Art + Design. Participants are welcome to take part in all technical talks, even though they may not be working in the same processes. This “one room school house” approach gives participants the possibility of a learning experience encompassing more than their chosen topic of study.
The school is housed in a new “heritage” building overlooking the Rosebery Bay, Slocan Lake and the Valhalla mountains. There are separate weaving and dye studios as well as a covered “finishing porch”. The dining/study area houses an extensive reference library and computer for computer aided drafting and designing.
The house and the studios are designed to give participants direct experience with the beautiful wilderness surroundings. The finishing details, natural materials, antique furniture, and art and textile collections all enrich the participants’ aesthetic learning experience.
